2011...Another Year, Another Top 10 List
Top 10 CD's of 2011
10. Satisfied - Joe Ely A laid back, homemade country CD with flashes of the guitar work that makes him a rockabilly legend.
9. Mission Bell - Amos Lee For me to like a folk CD this much it has to be good.
8. Guitar Slinger - Vince Gill More than just a tenor who is a pop/country star, he can play guitar.
7. Roots - Johnny Winter Exactly what you'd expect from him...and more.
6. End Game - Rise Against Somebody had to put out a really good rock record, and this was it for me.
5. Here Before - The Feelies I liked them in the '70's and I like them just as much now.
4. Sky Full of Holes - Fountains of Wayne Not their best, but better than any other power pop out there over the past year.
3. Wasting Light - Foo Fighters It's Dave Grohl, and it's awesome.
2. You, Me and Ghost - Sleeping in the Aviary Sometimes you hear a CD that just grabs you by the throat and demands that you listen repeatedly until you love it. That's this one for me.
1. El Camino - Black Keys My favorite listen of the year.
My Nominees for our HOF were:
Green Day
Chicago
Jeff Lynne
One sentence to describe music in 2011...A widely disparate mix of rock/pop/rap with nothing so galvanizing as to appeal to a universal audience.
Trend for the teens?...More of the same, but with less guitar and more electronic effects. Everyone, regardless of genre will be "autotuned".
Thanks for a great year and turning me on to things like Hayes Carl, Keith, Top of the Pops, Sleeping in the Aviary, and of course, the Best of the Accordion!
