The annual debate

Nominations for this year's class of R&R Hall of fame are:

Madonna
John Cougar Melonhead
The Beastie Boys
Donna Summer
Chic
Afrika Bambaataa
Leonard Cohen
The Dave Clark 5
The Ventures

With the possible exception of the Ventures and the Beasties, I wouldn't let any of that bunch in...

i would probably have to say madonna deserves to be in.

funny how judas priest, kiss and iron maiden seem to be past over. would think they were more influential in music then say chic.

B-boys for sure. I agree with Madonna too. Be fair...like it or not it's an important contribution to pop.

I too accept Madonna. The Beasties are also a contender in my book. Though I am not a fan I think Leonard Cohen deserves a nod for songwriting influence.

I will go on record to say that this is not the strongest list ever.

If it were the shameles self promotion hall of fame, Madonna would be a shoe in.

Doesn't write most of her material, doesn't play anything resembling rock and roll.

No way she belongs, but she'll get in because she's the only big name.

Like Elvis wrote his own songs... And, actually, Madonna writes the majority of her lyrics and she is a collaborator on most of her music too (especially the later stuff). I'm not all about Madonna but to dis her because she is a master of self-promotion and marketing is just silly. Come on, this is the music industry we're talking about here! You might as well say the same thing about Bowie or Mr. Shameless "Born in the USA."
